1. Name a country that starts with the letter L
Libya and Lebanon are the L countries everyone names first, so they sit at the surface. The deeper answers are the L countries most players forget exist — Laos, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxembourg float in the middle, while Liberia and the single rarest pick, the small southern African kingdom of Lesotho, dive much deeper. Naming an L country that is not the obvious one is the whole trick; and watch out for Liechtenstein, which reads as clever but earns Too Clever points rather than a deep score.

2. Name an island in the Mediterranean
Sicily, Cyprus and Crete are the islands everyone knows, so they stay at the surface, and the famous holiday islands — Santorini, Malta, Ibiza, Corsica — only float a little deeper. Depth comes from the small islands that rarely make the tourist list: the quieter Greek archipelago islands, the little Croatian islands, and the volcanic specks off Italy. The single rarest pick is Montecristo, the tiny Tuscan island made famous by the novel, which almost nobody names. The more obscure the island, the deeper you dive.

3. Name an animal that hibernates
Bear, bat and groundhog are the classic hibernators, so they float at the top. The deeper answers are the animals you do not usually think of as hibernating — reptiles and amphibians that brumate, insects like moths and ladybugs, even a fish like the koi. The rarest pick of the day is the Fat-tailed dwarf lemur, the only primate that truly hibernates, which almost no one types. Reach past the famous mammals and you will sink much deeper.

4. Name a Thai or Vietnamese dish
Pad Thai and pho are the two dishes everyone types, so they sit at the very bottom, while green, red, massaman and yellow curry, along with banh mi, only rise a little higher. Depth comes from a specific named preparation instead of a famous staple — a lesser-known Vietnamese bun or banh dish, a northern Thai specialty, a regional curry. The single rarest pick is sai ua, the herb-stuffed grilled sausage of northern Thailand; skip the famous staples and reach for a named regional dish when the timer starts.

5. Name a Pixar character
Woody, Buzz, Nemo and Dory are the characters everyone knows, so they cluster at the shallow end, and even the beloved leads — Sulley, Mike, Joy, Mater — only land in the middle. Real depth comes from the short-film stars and the speaking-part side characters most viewers forget: the Pixar short protagonists, the one-scene coworkers, the background heroes. The single rarest pick is Geri, the wizened old chess player from the short Geri's Game; when the obvious leads are gone, reach for a Pixar short protagonist or a one-scene side character.

6. Name a planet or dwarf planet in our solar system
Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are the planets everyone lists first, so they stay at the surface, and the other four planets — Mercury, Neptune, Uranus and Venus — only bob a little deeper. The real depth is in the outer dwarf-planet candidates most players have never heard of — Quaoar, Orcus, Sedna — with the tiny named dwarf planet Gonggong at the very bottom as the rarest pick. Pluto reads like a clever answer, but it earns Too Clever points, so naming a genuine deep-orbit dwarf planet is what takes you all the way down.

7. Name a hairstyle
Ponytail, bob and braids are the first words anyone types, so they float at the top, and the everyday cuts like fade, mohawk and bun sit only in the middle. Depth lives in the named, historic, technical hairstyles — finger waves, victory rolls, a bouffant, a chignon, even the samurai-era chonmage. The single rarest pick is the Fontange, the towering 17th-century French court style named after a duchess; skip the everyday cuts and reach for a named historical hairstyle when the timer starts.
