1. Name a country whose name starts with B
Brazil and Belgium are the first B countries most players type, so they sit at the shallow end. The deep answers are the smaller, quieter B countries that don't get called out as often — Bhutan, Brunei, Burundi, and the single rarest pick, Benin. The trick is to skip the giants and list a compact country you rarely hear about.

2. Name a marsupial
Everyone starts with kangaroo and koala, which keeps them at the surface. The deeper answers are the small, specialised Australian marsupials — quolls, numbats, bilbies, antechinus — and the South American oddity Monito del monte, the single rarest pick. If you can name a marsupial that isn't one of the big three, you dive much deeper.

3. Name an Italian dish
Pizza, spaghetti and lasagna are the automatic answers, so they cluster at the shallow end. Depth comes from a specific, named preparation instead of a broad staple — a particular pasta sauce like puttanesca, a regional dish like ribollita or caponata, or the rarest pick, Sardinia's casu marzu. Naming the dish, not the category, is the whole trick.

4. Name an official Disney Princess
The official lineup is a small, fixed list, and Ariel, Belle, Cinderella and Snow White are the names everyone says first. The deeper answers are the later additions people forget are official — Merida, Pocahontas, and especially Raya, the newest and currently rarest. Thinking beyond the classic trio is the only way down.

5. Name a famous physicist
Einstein, Newton, Hawking and Oppenheimer are the instant picks, so they stay at the surface. The deep answers are famous but less household-level physicists — Nobel laureates and theorists tied to a single discovery, with Cavendish and Chandrasekhar tied for rarest. Reaching past pop culture for a name from a specific theory or experiment is what sinks you deeper.

6. Name a current or former MLB team
The Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers are the first teams anyone names, which keeps them common. The deep answers are defunct franchises and pre-relocation names — the Montreal Expos, Brooklyn Dodgers, Houston Colt .45s, and the one-season Seattle Pilots at the very bottom. Teams that no longer exist are almost always rarer.

7. Name a fabric or textile
Cotton, silk and wool are the defaults, so they float at the top. The deeper answers are named weaves, technical textiles and luxury fibres — damask, organza, ramie, seersucker — with vicuña, the rarest pick, a fibre most players have never touched. Naming a specific fibre instead of a staple is what earns depth.
